Why drip irrigation
Heavy, near-continuous water demand over a 10-12 month crop, on rows close enough that flooding wastes most of it. Drip is the standard here.
What actually changes the answer
- Peak demand runs 5-8 mm/day against cotton’s 4-6. A pump sized for cotton and then planted to banana will come up short.
- A 10-12 month cycle with near-continuous demand — there is no slack period to catch up in.
- Rows are close enough (about 1.8-2.1 m) that flooding wastes most of what you pump.
